I LOVE . . .

... a rustic provencal pain au levain turned sliced-down on a thick birch cutting board.
... a fluffy calico cat of peach, white and gray who runs off the porch to greet me at my car.
... the flicker of candlelight in the early morning through a Moroccan-style brass votive holder.
... the distant wind-composed melody of wind-chimes.
... the rich smokiness of the Lapsang Souchong that hangs in my mouth.
... the teal ceramic teapot resting on the carved, wooden trivet from India.
... bread dipped in olive oil + honey.

Remembering last summer...
ron and I took a road trip to Durham, North Caroline to attend the wedding of one of my precious highschool friends, Amanda Van Scoyoc. The wedding took place at the Celebrity Dairy Inn, and the menu contained the dairy's own gourmet goat cheeses. Some attendees chose to camp on site, while ron + i stayed in a B&B near-by. I finished their wedding gift, a hand-embroidered, linen bolster case the morning of, and wrapped it in a walmart parking lot on asphalt (shhh...don't tell). Ron split his pants "gettin down to james brown" on the makeshift dance floor. After sunset, we twirled each other barefoot on the dew-covered grass until, dizzy, we tumbled over. ron grabbed my hand as the bride walked by and held it throughout the ceremony. We kissed when they kissed. The evening ended, breathless by a bon fire, serenaded by guitars in the company of friends.

Thank you for cotton candy clouds
flavored pale-cherry-pink
with lavender centers.

For swooping flocks of swallows, and
swift walks at dusk
serenaded by creeping toads.

Thank you for the elegant droop of snowdrops,
like tiny bells
that herald the spring,
and the perfume of lemon blossoms kept in my miniature tin.

Fare well my troubled lover

tossed and turned
on my turbulent waters
the moon pushes and pulls.

These emotions come from without you
Find solace within.

  1. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
    That saved a wretch like me!
    I once was lost, but now am found;
    Was blind, but now I see.
  2. ’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
    And grace my fears relieved;
    How precious did that grace appear
    The hour I first believed.
  3. Through many dangers, toils and snares,
    I have already come;
    ’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
    And grace will lead me home.
  4. The Lord has promised good to me,
    His Word my hope secures;
    He will my Shield and Portion be,
    As long as life endures.
  5. Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
    And mortal life shall cease,
    I shall possess, within the veil,
    A life of joy and peace.
  6. The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
    The sun forbear to shine;
    But God, who called me here below,
    Will be forever mine.
  7. When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
    Bright shining as the sun,
    We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
    Than when we’d first begun.
